1998 W210 E430 Shock Asorbers
Hello, I think I have found out what that knocking sound is coming from when I hit some bumps. I have replaced the lower control arm bushings and the lower ball joints, Still the same sounds.. I was at the dealership, and the part counter guy said check the shocks.. When I wiggled the top of the shocks, IT MOVED to my suprised, so I figured it must be worn. so I ordered new bushings for it... I need a socket for the top of the shock stud. Not the 17mm for the nut.. I need the socket to hold the stud while I turn the nut.. I f I was replacing the shock I would just grab the stud with some grip pliers.. But I am only replacing the bushings.. Now here comes the ????? Does anyone have a source for the special socket...???

Lisle makes a kit, Lisle Part #20400 that works. It is kind of a three handed operation, but works. I got mine at Pep Boys for about $11.00. You have to hold the top of the shaft with the special socket. You need a socket hold the special socket and an open end to free the nut.
