I don't have any manuals for my 92 500 sl. Where is the oxygen sensor? Secondly, how do I find one that is reasonably priced? I also read about oxygen sensors for other cars that were modified to fit mercedes. Any down sides to this method? and, which one will fit a 92 500 sl? I am getting ridiculous quotes on them, $175-$300!! That's just for parts.
Thanks, Vincent This is an awesome site. I have never learned so much about cars in 4 days. |

I wouldn't replace such an expensive sensor unless it needed it. Then I would use what was designed specifically for that application. The differences between applications is significant.
You should be able to buy a Bosch sensor (original equiptment)from many sources other than the dealer (including PartsShop). Get a good price for a quality replacement; thats the best deal. |

The car has 79568 miles on it. Is it due for one or wait for it to go out? How can I tell when it is out?
Thanks |

The O2 sensor should not be replaced unless it's causing problems. If Cal vehicle, you would a check engine light, however the best way is to have some one check the on/off ratio, basically make sure it's in closed loop. If it is, don't even worry about the thing.

The O2 sensor (you may have two) is located before and after the cat on your exhaust system. They break more often then older cars, I replaced mine bout 65K. When the O2 sensor fail, your “Check Engine” will stay on. If you are MBCA member, you can write to George Murphy, he have a modification with to use of the Ford Mustang O2 sensor.
