Air Conditioning System
I have a 93 400 SEL. When operating a/c system. Cold air blows from center vents and hot air blows from side vents. Have to close side vents to eliminate hot air. Dealer originally replace A/C control panel ($1,449). Day later problem occurred again. Replaced heater value/monovalve ($839.93). Did a/c control panel really need replacing? Have I paid for misdiagnosis?

Did the second job (water valve) fix the problem or not? Before they replaced the control panel (first job) did the problem come and go, or was it always malfunctioning?

Thanks Gilly.
Have not picked up car yet, but told problem solved. Before the a/c panel was replaced problem occurred intermittingly. |
Doesn't sound really convincing that the control panel was bad then, does it.
I'd ask if they have the old control panel (if there is no warranty, you should be entitled to old parts anyways, unless it's a reman part, in which case they probably needed to return the old one to the parts supplier). I'd be tempted to "call them on it" and say you don't think the control panel was neccesary and you want them to try to return the new one and reinstall the old one. Only thing is that it's a bear to remove the wood on this older 140. But sheeesh $1500 panel and it didn't fix it? "I don't think so" Gilly |
Gilly is right, $1500.00 is a lot for a miss dianoss. Somone didn't do enought testing should'nt cost you 1500.+labour. Often the duovalves go before the control panel.

Gilly,
Thanks. This is the kind of information I need. I pay for services and believe dealer has proper tools and know how. I also believe that with proper diagnostic tools and codes, dealer should be capable of assessing and correcting problem. This seemed like a cope out! Rpb1816 |
