This is a really good thread!
I am trying to get a friend's '82 300D into shape to sell. The major problem is that the transmission will not shift into fourth gear and takes some gymnastics with the throttle to get in to shift into third. The following is known about the transmission:
- it has been like this since it was installed - by the numbers it is a 722.309, for a euro 280 - it has a crack in the valve body - it takes a looooooonnnnnngggg time to go into forward gear unless you pull it to "L" - reverse engages normally - the modulator is holding vacuum Addditional info: - the vacuum to the modulator seems OK, drops on acceleration, stabilizes at about 13" - the throttle cable is properly adjusted - disconnecting the kickdown switch made no difference My question is, can anyone think of a quick and dirty fix to get this thing to shift into fourth? TIA
