My 300E seems to be suffering from a digestion problem! :) I've noticed that when using the brakes in 'stop and go' situations there is a squeaking noise and then sometimes it seems like air is being released *for lack of a better word* makes a farting noise :o and vibration in the pedal. Any idea on what might be causing this?? The brakes seem to stop on a dime when applied hard. Thanks!!

I have read that in terms of noise and vibration that MB brakes are real fussy on what kind of pads are used, and that the rotors are supposed to be replaced, rather than turned. Could your car have non MB approved pads or have had the rotors turned in the past? I will defer the techs - they will know more about brakes than I do.

I actually bought the car from a very *well known and respected* MB Tech :) So I am pretty sure that all is well as far as MB brake pads. I'm not sure about the rotors...

Thanks JCE

Another possibility for the sound you're describing is at the brake pedal itself. I have noticed that the pivot point for the brake lever makes a kind of squeaking noise when I release the brake, and of course is most noticable in stop and go traffic. Some day I'll spray some silicone spray on the area, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Took me a while to figure out where that noise was coming from! You might want to get down on the floor and push the brake a few times with your hands and see if you can reproduce the sound.

I saw on the most recent posts that another 88 300E owner is having the same problems. It seems like maybe the ABS control unit is experiencing some interference which is causing it to engage prematurely....sound plausible? If this is the case, what kind of repair work are we talking about?? :) I appreciate all the help! Thanks.

Your ABS is "farting". Mine did it also. Clean the Hall effect sensors on the front wheels. No more "farting"
