Question Speedometer

I need a new speedometer for my 1989 300ce. The Mercedes dealer says that the 1988 will not fit nor will a 1990-up. Is this true? My car is a Canadian model and the part number on the front of the speedo is 124 542 58 67. I called a local salvage yard and they said that the only one different is that one from a 4 MATIC, because it has what they call a "TV" meaning the small screen. I'm asking, because it will be cheaper for me to buy a used cluster than buying a new speedo from the dealer who wants $746.35 Canadian funds. I just want to know which years will fit.

Thank You in Advance

Not sure. But this one would make for a nice replacement if you can find one

How badly did you mess up the old one? Short of driving over it, repair is probably cheaper and allows the mileage to stay a virgin.

It needs to be recalibrated and I'm not sure what else. The worst part was just pulling out the cluster. It was so hard to pull out. I just don't want to deal with this again in the future. It is cheaper for me to buy a used cluster than a repair, believe it or not, that's why I was thinking about this option. I agree about the mileage issue, but most clusters that I have found have around the same mileage as mine anyway.

Thanks

Can't argue with that logic.
