Rear Differential Gearing

Hi,

I have a 1993 190E and I was wondering if all 190E gearing was the same for the 2.3l and the 2.6l.

I have a 2.6L and drive mostly on the highway and was looking for a way to get my RPMs down and increase the gas mileage.

Does anyone know

smg

I guess no one know whether a manual or auto 190E has different rear end gears?

What about 2.3-16?

Try the search feature, and also search the forum at 190Rev, you should find the info you need.

I think you will probably not gain much if anything with a change. But the cost of the change could be significant.
All things being equal, they usually they put taller gears with larger motors. Sorry I can't tell you the actual #'s for those models.

My friend installed an overdrive in his truck a few years ago, after he bragged about his "claimed" 20% increased mileage, we figured out his savings on paper. He would need to drive it over 100K miles just to break even! I seriously doubt his truck will last that long.
