Hi everyone. I have an 88 300E with 204K miles. Recently there is a sound from the left front wheel when the brakes are applied. It's not a screeching sound but rather a high pitched whistle. When the car is almost at a stop the sound stops and the ABS seem to engage (pedal pulsates, sound, etc). This happens more as the day wears on, I suppose because of heat accumulation.
The pads are new and the brake system was recently flushed (MB dealer).
I have the receipts from the previous owner and he experienced the "ABS engaging" a few times but the mechanic was unable to reproduce the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I have seen that when you have a high pitched whistle or squeal, the ABS will come in. This is because there is interference sent to the ABS control unit.

You have a problem that the dealer should be able to correct.

Just wanted to let you know that I also have a 88 300E with 210K and am experiencing the exact same problem. Your post/answer really helped. I really am NEW to the Benz family so I was a little concerned as to what the prob might be. Thanks. Let me know how it turns out.

I can't comment on the sound, but I've had a few occasions when my ABS kicked in inappropriately (i.e. on a nonslippery surface) and always at very low speed, like when I was just about to come to a stop. Turned out to be brake dust clogging up the ABS magnetic sensors. It's a cheap problem to fix.

Well, took the car to the dealer and they told my wife it was the ABS moderator kit. They're quoting her about $850 parts and labor. Does that make sense?

Actually, I talked to the dealer and they say its the ABS sensors. They tell me it's up to me to fix it as it is not a safety issue yet since it's not happening all the time. Any thoughts
