Corner Light /Indicator Flew off My Car!

I went for a drive and when I arrived at my destination, and got out of my car, I noticed that my corner light was no longer with me. It flew off the car. My corner lights were replaced only a year ago, bought oem from Mercedes. Time to but the new clear corners. Has anyone else had thishappen to them?!

Yup,

I put the original blinkers back on my 230E after taking them out to clean things out... and I guess I didn't put it back correctly or the tab(s) is/are weak and it flew off the car...

Thanks for the reply Adi. I guess I'm not alone I still can't believe the plug got disconnected.

The tabs are super weak. You can break them if you squeeze them to tight and when you put them in you have to make sure the little cut out in the tab hooks properely.

tell me about it...

$800 starter fix (tow, labor from the closest ($$$$) mb dealer, and the starter), a weird hard start, sticking key tumbler... what else? I don't know...

look at the bright side, you now have a reason to get clear corners and get a new pit-free windshield!

If your ignition tumbler is sticking, replace it now!

If I were you, I'd pull it out ASAP and use the car without it for awhile until the new one arrives. And, they come with a new spare key. 5 minute repair if you can still turn the key, hours if you cannot.

If you downgrade to low quality aftermarket clear turn signals, you run an even higher risk of them flying off.

thanks, but it's not the ignition key tumbler. it's the driver's side door lock tumbler..

so far it's much better after I put some powdered graphite in it...

and yes, I agree... I'd replace a sticking ignition tumbler right away..

My windshield and corner lenses are just over a year old from the Mercedes dealer. Windshield is like new excluding today's incident. If my winshield was the original one, I wouldn't have minded so much. Oh well, I gotta deal with it now.

The corner light fell off of my 300E. The light had recently been replaced due to a minor fender bender. I figure they didn't push it in until it had properly latched. I was shocked to find it missing and first thought that it had been stolen.

I later had one come out and dangle by the wires on my 500SL. I had just had the washer pumps replaced. I think they may have removed it for access to something. Again, once I put it back and made sure that it latched I have had no more trouble with it.

I have heard that the plastic latches tend to break when disengaging them. One with a broken latch would tend to keep coming out.

I took out the side marker about a month ago just to change the light bulb. In the process I accidently broke the plastic tab. I put the marker back in knowing that the tab was broken. In 2 days the marker fell out. Luckily I bought an extra one from a member on this forum.

I don't understand why they made those tabs out of plastic. It's just a matter of time before these tabs break. Guess Mercedes followed those ricer cars when designing the side markers.

Holson Adi, you can adjust/fiddle with your outer door locks via the set screw that holds them in. I learned this after replacing my door handle rubber and the previously perfect drivers door lock sucked after I was done. A few turns looser on the set screw and magic again.

Hi David,

My driver's door lock wont turn left to unlock doors. It only turns right to lock doors. Understand door tumblers are very expensive. This just happened after I changed the igition tumbler. Luckily I got key to turn one more time. Big thanks to a member commenting in a thread saying to use a jigsaw. Think an adjustment can fix this?

Do you have to remove inside door panel first to get to the be able to adjust the set screw? Any tricks needed to not break trim parts?

Thanks,Jeff

My ignition tumbler is sticking badly, oddly enough with a master key recently grinded from the dealer. It still works fine in all other locks, just not the ignition. So I use 2 keys, 1 for ignition, and another for doors.

Approximately how much $$ is it for a replacement ignition tumbler?

TIA!
