Question Climate Control Panel Removal, 88 300SE

My climate control system has stopped functioning. Specifically, the blower motor will not come on and (I think) as a result nothing else operates. All fuses and connections in the engine compartment have been checked and the system is charged with freon.
I need to get to the blower motor and the climate controls, blower motor control, etc. I've had an SL, SLC and currently own an 80 SLC. The panel on these can be removed with a putty knife by slipping it under the bottom of the panel and lifting gently. Also the blower motor is reachable in the engine compartment.
The SE however, has a radio at the base of the panel, the ash tray below that, and the blower motor is under the dashboard (I think).
HOW DO I GET THE PANEL OFF TO GET TO THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM CONTROLS AND HOW DO I GET TO THE BLOWER MOTOR.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Lee in the Ozarks.
