Question for everyone:

I currently use Mobil 1 Synthetic 15W-50 in all three of my cars.

I really want to use the Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40 that is only sold in Europe.

Does anyone know where I can get this?

Also, why isn't this imported into the USA?

Both of the Oils they carry are made by Lubro-Moly. All of their products that I've purchased to date indicate they're made in Germany. Beware! - the 5W-40 oil is $9.95 a liter + shipping.

Why do you want to use 0W40?

The 40 weight spread requires an ENORMOUS amount of viscosity index improver additive in the oil. This additive causes severe carbon build up, especially in small hardworking engines. Be careful.

Unless you drive up into subzero temperatures in the mountains and then back into the desert on a daily basis, this weight oil should be totally unnecessary.

i use 5w-50 syntec available at costco $6.00 canadian.
keep it in for 20000 km ,change filter at 10000 km.
i have a 1984 300d and have no problems with it.

There is probably little, if any, viscosity improvers (VI) in the 0W-40 Mobil 1. This is one of the advantages that synthetic motor oil has over petroleum based oil. Having said that, I agree with Larry -- why would someone who lives in FL need this?

I used 0W-30 Mobil 1 last winter in my wife's car and, although it worked well, was probably overkill even here in Minnesota. I think I'll use the 5W-30 version this winter instead.

...and keep changing the oil and filter regularly no matter what oil you use!

there is no earthly reason for you to use a '0W-40' oil in your MBZ, UNLESS you park in -40 and race it too.

Florida should get 10W-30, 10W-40, 15W-50, 20W, or 30W summer.
