Usually it is the fan motor that is making the noise. You will have to replace it soon. Prepare your wallet.

BENZMAC, WHEN YOU SAID Prepare your wallet......HOW MUCH IS THAT?! WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE?! THE PART OR THE LABOR?.....THIS

Definitely sounds like bearing in fan motor--a couple of years ago it suddenly started making noise and sounded just like a cricket. I think labor in getting to fan motor is biggie here.

If it is the bearing, dose it effect the heat? because it is close to winter, I dont
need A/C for awhile?

Same motor for heating & a/c. Part # is 201-820-06-42 & list price is $252. It takes 1.5-2.0 hrs to install.

Thy God! Its a DIY job !!
My benz just started to foul apart all over saden. In my "tune up post" I mentioned that it cost me 1,400$ to do what I was going to do on my own. Please tell me that I will be able to put in this motor myself. It is making the noises described here and I can't afort to take it to the tech again. :(
I got the CD manuals and Hanes book. Is it a more or less easy job?

YEESSSSSSSSSS!
I am a DIY and I did it. It took me a LOT more than 2 hours but, I did it!
I have the printed manuals and if you follow them, use some common sense and a LOT of patience you can do it too. TIP: If you have a leak in the evaporator, you may want to do both at the same time, since you have to remove the blower to replace the evaporator (worst case scenerio).
How is the Haynes book?

I had the same noise coming from my fan blower about 1 year ago. I thought that I had to replace the motor as the sound was getting worse and worse. Then I read a post about just putting a few drop of auto transmission fluid on the bearings. I did and my fan has been noise free ever since.

How about that oil ?!
Can it really solve the problem?
One way or the other we will have to go through hell geting to the motor.
The problem is, I can live without AC
(puting this off till summer or a raise in salory), but I don't think I'll make it without the blower through the winter.
I did not have a chance to look at the Heynes book yet, it is at my parents house. My dad said that it is just as any other Haynes. I wiil right a litle review later :)
J.H. I hope you wan't mind if I bug you for some advise later.
Thanks

I have a noise that sounds like a bird chirping from behind the center a/c ducts, but it comes and goes and is not a function of whether I turn the heat - a/c on. The funny thing is that it seems that it comes on when I have a passenger in the car.

Where can I grease the bearings?

Matt, grease the passenger :D :D. You will have to remove the motor from the blower housing to do anything to the internals. I had a cricket in the blower of my late beloved BMW 325. Turned ou to be one broken vane on the squirrel cage. Removed the broken piece, no more cricket. Maybe he'll get lucky..

My blower motor was chirping ridicuously tonight driving home. Its the first time the chirp came back since last winter--seems to come back when the weather is cooler.

I've noticed many have had success with putting tranny oil on the bearings instead of replacing the darn thing. Can anyone give detailed instructions on how to "oil" the motor?

BY THE WAY, INSTEAD OF DROPING COUPLE OF TRANNY OIL....CAN WE JUST SPRAY THE CENTER
A/C DUCT WITH BUG SPRAY?? CAN THAT KILL THAT CRICKET?! HEHEHE ;p ;p
