OM603 piston ring gap arrangement?
Does anyone know the correct way to arrange the piston ring end gaps during reasemmbly of the OM603.960? I was going to go with 11 o'clock with the compression ring, 7 o'clock with second ring, 3 o'clock with the oil control ring. 12 o'clock being the front of the engine. Thanks for any and all inputs.

Dear Skleutz,
Rule one in piston rings arrangement : the gaps never alligned with the "centerline" of the engine ( 6 o'clock - 12 o'clock ). Rule two : gaps never positioned perpendicular to the centerline ( 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock ). You should also take into account that there is one side of the piston suffering more wear caused by the "cantling" due to the force of the explosion... Hope this will help you , Danny |
