Question about 500SL hyd cylinders
My 1999 500sl started to leak from top passenger side of the windshield,I believe there are the same system, how do you get to them to replace them,I don't see any hardware besides the screw on the flange by the clamp hole, can you help me

hydraulic leak at top of windshield
there are two hydraulic rams in the top of the windshield. open the roof. remove the screws securing the cover. push the cover towards rear of car to release cover from clips. once you have the cover off you will see the plumbing. replace both hydraulic rams, just to be safe. they cost $110 or so each. your leak is repaired.

Since you have already done the repair, you've noticed that there isn't much to installing them, so it's not likely that you didn't do it properly.
Most likely, you are still getting a leak because the excess fluid from the previously leaking cylinders is still present in the windshield channels. It took me three or four tries with long cotton swabs and paper towels to get every visible trace of fluid removed. No more leaking after that. |
hydraulic leak
you will have some leakage after the repair is done from the residual oil.
