Need help reading A/C guages

I found and fixed the freon leak[i hope].I am using Yellow Jacket guages made to read R-12,R-22,and R-502.At 2000 rpms i charged system using guages and sight glass. When sight glass was clear i stopped charging and the guages read 30 low and 166 high.At idel 650 rpms guages read 50 low 158 high.Acording to Ackits R-12 chart and the info i received from this forum,i should be getting readings around 30 low 250 high. I am reading the red R-12 area of the guages, should i be reading from the larger black numbers on the outer area?

Need more info on the "fix". How was it fixed. Did you open the system? evacuate? new Reciever/dyer? etc, etc.

If you opened the system, fixed the leak and charged it, then you have moisture in the system, possible insufficent oil , etc.

More info !!!

Is it blowing cold air out the vents? Provide readings at 1500 rpm too.

The leak was at the two large connecting flair nuts to the right of the Low side service valve. I tightened them and sofar no leaks.
I found the info on the guages and the preasure readings i should be reading are the outside black numbers which are 47 low and 250 high. The temrs. at the center vents are only 50 degs.

Still does not sound cool enough. Not knowing your ambient temperature conditions and the numbers at 1500 rpm makes it hard to diagnose from here. What was the procedure used for charging the system after tightening the leak?

Ambient temp.98 deg. At 1500 rpm's 30psi low- 255psi high. Car is very cool when driving but at a light the temp goes up slightly.

Pressures sound like they aren't bad for the ambient conditions. Try adding just a little more r12. The symptom - blowing cold except while stopped are classic signs that it is slightly undercharged.

As always if you can charge by weight (as indicated on the label under the hood) you can nail it.

I think i will see if it holds a charge before i spend another 29.00 .
