I’ve been experiencing the following problem on my 5spd 190e with 136K on the odometer. In gear, both reverse and forward – if I take my foot off of the gas with the clutch engaged, the car rocks back and forth slightly. At low speed with high rpms, such as in 1st or 2nd, the rocking is more violent at higher rpms. The only way to stop this is to depress the clutch BEFORE I take my foot off the accelerator. When I do, the transition is smooth. It feels like it coming from the rear-end and there is an audible clunk with the movement. Is this a transmission, clutch or a rear end problem? I had the flex disks replaced about two years ago so they should be fine.

I have seen some of the damper springs break inside of the clutch disc.
