1987 560sec headliner

88,000 miles.

last friday, headliner was all high and tight.

today, a week later, returning from a trip, entered my garage, started the sec and when backing it out, noticed that the headliner from the rear window to the sunroof had fallen from the roof so to speak.

wha' happened?

i have a 1986 560sel where the headliner is still high and tight. so what is the problem with the sec?

i imagine that i need to find a good upholstery shop to repair this headliner. anybody know one in the houston, texas area?

Al,

This is a VERY common occurence with the 126 SECs.

It can be fixed as a moderate DIY project. The instructions, very detailed, to do this reside on the Net at:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/chwilka/drooping_headliner_repair.htm

Basically it entails removing the headliner, separating the fabric from the underlying material, regluing it and then replacing the headliner.

The cost of a new headliner is somewhat prohibitive -- last time I checked it was over $1,200 just for the part. I'd expect labor to run several hours, minimum, so you'd probably be looking somewhere north of $1,500 to have the job done.

Cheers,
Gerry

thnx, gerry -

yes, i knew that it was a common problem with the c126's[as opposed to the 126 sedans].

one of the things you might know, how long does this fix last? any ideas?

and lastly, is there a way to convert the sec headliner to the sel headliner? after all, at 260,000 miles my 1986 560sel headliner is still high and tight.

hey, via email, tell me what the latest is with the m100 group.
