1967 250SE voltage regulator

I have replaced the alternator and now apparently need to replace the voltage regulator. My original has four PINS that plug into the harness. I cannot seem to get an original voltage regulator, I now have TWO newer replacements with blade connectors. I know the DF, D-, and D+ pinouts of my alternator and of course, know how the harness plug attaches, but continuity tests between the plug to the alternaor and the plug to the orignial voltage regulator don't provide much help in figureing how to attache the new voltage regulator. Help PLEASE help.
