Windshield Replacement W126 Dallas Area

Hello, could someone please recommend a Dallas area windshield replacement company that has a technician(3) with plenty of experience with 420 SELs?

I want to replace my original windshield with a premium PPG or Pilkington.

Thank you.

Hi,
I would call the local MB Dealer and ask the service department. You might get lucky.

I would find a windshield in a wrecking yard, have them remove it, then take it to one of many shops in the metroplex for installation.

Folks, thanks much for the replies with tips. I appreciate the great feedback here. I had a PPG windshield installed yesterday and during removal of the old windshield the edge of the hood by the base of the windshield was chipped (about a pinky fingernail size chip - down to the bare metal). Upsetting to say the least.

I did plenty of research and carefully screened all glass companies to make sure their tech had experience with the W126/420SEL. I ended up using glass in Dallas which was on the approved list of my local MB club.

I will have to prime and touchup up the chip but I just wanted to report back to let everyone know the result. I always felt that removing the windshield on a 420 SEL would be challenging since the edge of the hood overhangs the base of the windshield - not much clearance if a tool slips. I informed the shop of the damage but didn't discover it until I brought it home and hand washed the car. I do suspect the damage occurred while the tech was trying to remove the old adhesive.

Might we politely ask how much they charged you for this? Glass, seal and labor. [if a W126 uses a seal]
I used Safelite in Richardson for my W123. They did fine, it was my aftermarket seal that was the issue..... [never again will I use a non-MB seal, and they said they'd never install another windshield on one of these without an OEM seal]

The W126 windshields are held in with adhesive only no rubber seals. The shop should pay to fix their screwup.

I use the Safelite outlet here in Lancaster Ca. They did a great job...twice. The first windshield was Chinese crap and cracked after a month. they replaced free of charge with a premium Pilkington and it's been 3 or 4 months or longer,(I'll have to look up the receipt) and this windshield is great.....so far.

I got a recommendation from the Dallas MB dealer a few years back; but can't remember now which company it was. The tech came to my house. Unfortunately he didn't know JACK about replacing my 126 windshield, and I had to advise him. He actually didn't even know that there are two tabs at the bottom that support and position the glass in the proper place.
I had assumed the worst, and had taped off everything, and removed the wipers, a-pillar trim, etc; ahead of time.
Together we did a great job.
I even went to the dealer and bought a new Daimler sticker.

Jimmy, about $350 before tax - In line with other quotes I received.

Chadahar, even if they agreed to repaint the hood I wouldn't get it done because after 20 years not even the best paint shop could get an exact match. I've owned the car for 20 years so I have had plenty of experience fixing chips.

S-Class Guru, I wish I was as mechanically inclined as you and the others here. I learned so much about what it takes to replace one of these windshields and it helped me determine if various techs really knew how to do it. I wish I had the experience to work with them when it was done but I would probably have gotten in the way plus my experince has been that some shops don't want customers in the shop and sometimes the tech might even get nervous with a customer breathing over his shoulder. I'm glad you were able to assist on your replacement.
