No sign of being open for business on several days.......

This shop was deserted and locked up tight this past week during business hours when I went to investigate the viability of perhaps using this shop in the future. There also was no telephone answered in the multiple times I called this shop covering numerous days.

Karl is still around, I see him every now and then at the wholesaler picking up parts. He's in his 70's so may not be at the shop every day.

Karl is part-timing it these days...

...if he's there at all. He's very good, and very reasonable, but he's got no one backing him up. He and his wife are all there is to the shop, and she doesn't work on cars, but she's a sweetie!

The area used to be the wholesale and industrial corridor for Dallas. It is rapidly shifting to trendy restaurants, design studios, antique dealers, custom furnishing and decorating stores, and such like. I don't think Karl owns the real estate, so his rent is going to go through the roof soon, he's lost almost all his parking space -- deadly for a one-man shop -- and he's slowing down.

Another thread mentioned Lovers Lane European. Yes, they're high ($800 labor only to replace the ignition key lock on the column of an '80 300D, which is, admittedly, a total PITA, which is why I paid the price, since the engine and tranny had just been rebuilt) but I can vouch for the quality of the labor. I have a close friend who has used them forever, but then he's a trust fund baby, so he can afford what most of us can't.

Sunnyintx ,good to see you and John are still into the old mbs,I was at your gathering with Hunter and the guys back when the tech meets were happening ,it was fun while it lasted ,The t-shirt guy if that rings a bell .Texas has alot of the old cars to still corral but Im down to just 3 myself. It maybe that Ill have to give this idea of wrenching on these old cars a go as a living ,god knows Ive had enough practice.

Of course we remember you :D We still HAVE our t-shirts. We are still into them, tho not able to work on them so much anymore. We have WAY too many from our buying/restoring days -- many nice bodies, many solid drivetrains, just not enough together in the same cars :o We need to thin the herd ;)

just an FYI, they don't do pre purchase inspections for those in need/looking for a knowledgeable old timer to serve as their eye/hands from afar... Ah Well:(

I just saw Karl walking out of one of the parts wholesalers as I was walking in. Still seems to be plugging away.
