As I previously wrote; outside of the 2.5 hrs labor charge, without an itemized bill, you don't know what you're getting nor what you paid for. I take issue with the amount of labor charged too. BTW, what was their hourly rate? I find it hard to believe that it takes 2.5 hours to do an R & R.

Did you request or receive a complete written estimate before work was started on your car?
I am sure there are two sides to this story, without seeing the invoice it is a wee bit premature to bash a named business on the Internet.

If you take the Alternator price $115. this is usually doubled at a mechanic shop, price $230 .To give a value on labor, it should be posted somewhere in the shop ,this will give you Labor ,easy to ask these Questions .Lets say $95 x 2.5 =$ 237.5 plus part = $467.50 plus tax puts it around $40 ,final price $507 ish.A double part cost and A RANGE of $85 to $100 per hr will give you a value to work from in the future .Most shops use a source to estimate hrs from before a job starts, its good to ask this quote because if you dont they wont search it, you then get charged by what it took their mechanic who will surely include the time for coffee and smoke breaks.Ask before even driving your car up into an est. what the job is going to cost ,they usually will shoot you straight and try to stay within that time line.Remember the mechanic makes part of that value of the hourly ,if he can put down 2.5 hrs vs .5 for the job you can bet he will put down the 2.5 rate .The underwriter who gives you the quote can also be the mechanic who does the work so you may never know the truth on hrs unless youve actually have done the job before YOURSELF,the peachparts crowd here KNOWS .
