Does anyone have info on a good shop in Tulsa?--I recently dealt with Cooper Imports but they misdiagnosed a vacuum problem to the tune of $1100.00.

I need a reputable place I can deal with.

An independent shop--worked on my parents' cars when they were with the local MB dealership 20 years ago and has since gone out on his own. Has kept 7 cars running beautifully for us over the past two decades. Highly recommend for pricing, honesty, and value of the service. Ralph and his wife Joan run the shop out of their gargage, but don't be fooled by the homey setting--it's a top-notch operation.

I don't know when you went to Benzin and got "reasonable" prices, but those cats usually make bucks on parts markup.

Busby's your man. I recommend him to everyone. Fast, knowledgeable, courteous, and will fix the bare minimum for us cheapskates. His parts prices are not out of line.

I was traveling through Tulsa with my '60 220SE Coupe and needed a water pump. Not only did they have one on hand but they installed it quickly and put me back on the road in no time. Excellent guys.

Glad to hear of your positive experience but who is the "they" you speak about?

Just letting everybody know that I recently took my E300TD into Benzin Motor Works and was very impressed with the facility and the personnel. I would recommend them to anybody.

Ralph Busby is the best. When I lived up near Kansas I would drive the 60 miles to his shop as he is just plain good.

Don't be put off by the size of his shop or the fact it might take him a day or so longer than anyone else. After letting Ralph repair your car you will never want to take it anyplace else.

His prices are also very good.

"They" would be Denny or Sid at Benzin motor works. They also have an excellent staff of very knowledgeable and qualafied workers in the shop. A lot of shops have a very high turn-over-rate of mechanics but Benzin Motor Works has had the same guys there now for the 10 years I have known them and done business with them. If you are in the Tulsa area and are in need of work done to a BMW, Benz or Hummer, these guys can certainly get you fixed up. I have always done my own work on my vehicles and never let anyone else touch them, even to change oil. However, if I needed something done on my Benzo's, I would trust these guys 100% to take care of it and do it right. They may not be the best priced shop in town but you get what you pay for. They have a very nice facility and excellent employees and that is called overhead. It takes money to stay in business. A few extra bucks is well worth it to me to get my vehicle repaired by someone that knows what they are doing. We all know more about diesel Benz's on this forum than your average "shade-tree-mechanic". Take it to Benzin to get it done right if you are not doing the job yourself. You will be glad you did.

And, BTW, I do not own any part of this business nor am I being paid to advertise for them. The words typed here are true from past experience dealing with them. I realize it's been awhile since anyone replied to this thread. HOWEVER, I just had to let you all know my experience with Benzin. I began to notice that after most trips to a local Tulsa Mercedes dealership for servicing, something else would need a look. (Could just be coincidence, but I began to anticipate the second visit because it happened so often.)

THEN, my husband made an appointment with Benzin. I did have reservations about letting someone else touch my car. I mean, only the dealership can take care of it correctly, right?. WRONG!

I will never go back to the previously unnamed dealership for service again! I had sticker shock on the price of the repairs - I would have NEVER believed I could have gotten out of the door paying that little. Also, the guys behind the little windows treat their customers like real people, not just a walking repair tag number!

They seem to take pride in what they do and with their diagnostics. The guy called to let me know that he had to order a previously unknown part, and he sounded frustrated - almost like he expected better of himself.

Really, there just aren't enough good things that I can say about them. (And, NO I don't work there and I don't get a commission!! I wish I did because I tell everyone about them when I find out they have a Mercedes.) Benzin also works on Hummers and MiniCoopers.

Whether or not Benzin is worth visiting must depend on what you need to have fixed. I took my SLK32 there after being disappointed with Jackie Cooper's service in the past. My supercharger was disengaging intermittently. Benzin pulled the codes, and thought it needed a new supercharger. They got new and rebuilt pricing from Cooper, called my warranty company, who balked at the price tag saying it would need to be 'verified'. Then they called me saying they A) wouldn't want to fix it unless I'm willing to spend the money to do it right, B) they wouldn't make any money fixing it, so C) I should get a 2nd opinion (translation - they aren't going to touch it). That'll be $110.

So I took it to Cooper, and maybe they just need to hear that you actually would go someplace else, because suddenly they were on-par with Lexus of Tulsa in handling me. They diagnosed a faulty pulley bearing in the coupler between the engine and supercharger, which they got immediate approval to replace. (They also fixed my fuel sending unit while they were at it). It sounded and ran better for a moment, but unfortunately, the supercharger was still cutting out. Took it back, and they replaced the coolant circulation pump the same day - Benzin actually knew this was bad, and still wanted to replace the whole supercharger. Again, immediate OK from the warranty company.

It now runs like new again. I saved over $8,000 versus the approach Benzin would have taken, and thanks to my warranty, it only cost me $50 out of pocket.

My advice regarding Benzin is that if you have an engine-related problem, go to Cooper. I'll leave it at that.
