High Temp Paint/Ceramic Coating
I'm looking to paint or coat two exhaust manifolds and two turbo elbows -- all cast iron. I've looked into sending them out for ceramic coating or jet hot coating, and that is just too expensive. I am looking for some kind of heat-retaining coating that I can put on myself or an idea for an inexpensive process I can obtain elsewhere.Any suggestions?

I recently used straight forward though not very cheap high temperature paint on my exhaust manifold...

Heat resistant coatings that actually work are never cheap.
Do you know the operational temperatures of the parts you are trying to coat? John

Yes, that is what I was afraid of. If you want it to hold up, you'll need to consider the ceramic or jet hot coating. I am unfamiliar with the jet hot process, but a client of my used to work at a company that make ceramic coated cast iron pipe. This stuff was tough.
At those temperatures, you will need a coating that is 100% inorganic. Appling a coating like that is tough. I know they took the pipes to 850F to apply the ceramic coating to the pipes. Cool sometimes costs a lot of money.

Well, I've shopped around a bit and it seems I can get a local place to put on a thermal barrier ceramic coating inside and out the two manifold pieces and the two elbows for about $300. That's a coating that is supposed to be stable up to 2000 degrees. It only comes in a satin black, which is acceptable to me. I'll try and do before and after pics.
