260k on the odometer and the head has yet to be removed.

During my 28-year guardianship of this car, I have installed Euro headlamps & bumpers, replaced the auto CC with a manual CC system from a '77 240D plus a W115 A/C thermostat for simplicity, exchanged electric controls on the windows & sliding roof for manual.

I removed all seats and added additional material to the lumbar supports & front seat cushions.

In the optional space of each tail-light assembly - for rear fog lights in Europe - I installed an extra brake lamp plus new tail-lamp assembly seals.

I replaced all vacuum elements & actuator of the central locking system and later had the wheels stripped & polished - not chromed.

I replaced Yorkie with a Sanden, still using R-12. After a long search, a tach/clock for a 280E was found.

For simple maintenance stuff, I added a 9-blade cooling fan, 4 new Bilsteins, new sunroof seals, new outer door-window seals (rails), new differential/transmission/motor mounts, rebuilt all 4 brake calipers, replaced all rubber brake lines, all rotors & front bearings, all rear rubber fuel lines & filter. Front/rear windshield seals replaced by a glass shop. Not-so-simple stuff done at 215k by local INDY: new timing chain, tensioner & upper guide rail, valve-stem seals. (The only front sunroof seal that fits properly is MBZ. After-market is OK for side brushes & rear seals).

I installed new flex discs, centre bearing/support/dust cover at 219K. DLS in Atlanta replaced the u-joint and rebalanced the drive shaft.

At 245k I installed a new radiator, hoses, water pump, and front crank seal.

ruchase I since sold the euro 280ce...long story, but involved a relocation to the east coast. However, I might be acquiring a 1980 euro 280se (w116) and moving back to SoCal within a few months...so that will be a nice "welcome home" present to myself. Nice work on the w123 btw; hope you post more pics! 08-04-2015
280EZRider Ruchase, the 5-speed will really add to the performance. You have one of the best motors MBZ has ever made. Iīm sure you will enjoy it! Since I last posted, I replaced the York compressor with a Sanden style - much less drag on the motor but fortunately for you the Euros donīt use Yorkie. I now have 239K on the clock and have exchanged the earlier air filter housing for the later, eliminating the need for the hose. 10-09-2013
ruchase Beautiful car! I just picked up a euro '83 280ce with a getrag 5 speed...same color as yours. It needs some minor work, but otherwise is very clean. 10-05-2013
RML Beautiful car. Beautiful work. 06-17-2011
280EZRider An easy change: I simply removed the electric lifters and replaced them w/manual lifters & handles. The rear lifter handle-shafts go thru the same hole as the window switches, so no messing up of the panels was necessary. 05-21-2009
alfa 75 Beautiful car - how bad was it to switch it the power windows to manual? 05-20-2009

eagle-co94 Looks awesome! It's like the American born big brother to my German born '85 280CE. 12-21-2007
280EZRider Thank you. No, it's not a Euro car by birth - but just by returning it, as much as I have been able, to its intended design. 11-30-2007
MBeige That's a beautiful '77 280E you have there! Is it a true Euro spec car? 11-30-2007
