87/88 W124 230TE Binz - European Ambulance version of the W124
Previously used by the Red Cross in Norway.
Binz, Germany modifies vehicles for many purposes. They are sought after due to better build quality than other modifiers.
Based on a W124 87-model chassis with a 2.3 liter (2299ccm) straight 4 cylinder M102.982 engine and 4-speed automatic. Stretched wheel base and higher roofline.
First time registered: March 25th, 1988.
Actual length: 547 cm (almost 18 ft). Width: 174 cm (approx 5 and 3/4 ft). Almost a good 2,5 ft longer than a regular wagon.
Non-catalytic version, 136BHP.
Uprated 100Ah battery (and possibly alternator).
Dash is modified with a button and outlet top build to control the extra lights and rear compartment fan and heating.
Registered for 4 persons. 2 front and 2 rear, whereas one is for the hospital bed and pasient.
Curb weight: 1810kg + driver 75kg = 1885kg (4147 lbs). Maximum total weight 2240kg (4928 lbs).
Seems to be based around regular W124 230E parts.
More to come.

wilsonw116 That is so cool. I'd take one of those bodies over a van any day. Amazing they used only a 4 banger. Does the job. 10-18-2008
Jim B. That is a really great ambulance, cool that you are giving it a new life.
We NEVER see Binz conversions like that in the USA for ambulances, they use Ford E350 diesel engine vans
