1973 Mercedes 220
Getting around to refurbishing this 220 that has been in our family since new. Purchased in Germany, but smogged in California where it has spent all it's life. No rust, no dents, in all a very reliable car with 175K. Will have repainted, new AC unit installed, and it could use a new dash pad. Radio is original Becker Europa stero (works great) 220's did not have wood trim- this was installed by the supplier when my Dad purchased the car prior to shipment 35 years ago. The rear bumper is from a 280 as the original was damaged some time ago. Not the fanciest Benz - but gets a lot of compliments.

ruchase That's a stunner! This and the w108 are by far my favorite body styles. Digging the fog lights too! 11-15-2012
Beastie Keep It!. Have it professionally buffed ( foam pad not lambs wool) Also I really dig the Fog lights. Beautiful classic body style. My first model car was of a 220 fell in love with it. 08-17-2010
Colorado220 Beautiful 220. and you know the entire history awesome! 05-24-2009
ThomP Thanks all- the car has been in the family since new and despite the fact that it is giving me more than a few headaches with the carb - I plan on keeping it for the kids. I was thinking of having repainted- but after your comments I talked to a few pros who said the paint can be almost restored to like new condition - can't beat Mercedes paint jobs, and I do love the euro bumpers. 08-13-2008
bluebenz Beautiful car! Love that color and those small bumpers are beautiful! 08-12-2008
280EZRider From the photos, I don't see the need to repaint your car. And repainting will never give you the quality of muliple layers of single-stage paint that you car has. 2-stage paint is junk, which is all you can get now, at least in CA. So please don't repaint it unless you absolutely have to. I'm sure you have plenty of paint on your car to polish out. 08-09-2008
ThomP Thanks - The old style steering wheel came with the car, but had been swapped on delivery to bring up to compliance in Calif...along with all the smog garbage, sa this was a grey market purchase. That is the old wheel on the floorboard on the passenger floor - someday I'll put back on, to re-"Germanize" the car. 08-02-2008
280EZRider I love the color, and the added wood trim is a nice touch. It's understandable why the car receives so many compliments. Your 220 reminds me of my former '72 220. Did you swap the steering wheel for a later model one? 08-02-2008
