1974 Mercedes 450SL
I always wanted a Mercedes convertible, and at 43 years of age my dream came true!
I bought her from another enthusiast who was thinning down his collection. His loss was certainly our gain!

winecountryone I paid 3500$ back in 2008.The 75 and back cars use a different fuel injection system.Parts for the old system are expensive and more difficult to find.75&76 models used catalytic converters but they were part of the exhaust manifolds put a lot of extra heat into the engine compartment.
Newer 450 models had a troublesome climate control servo that requires frequent overhaul.Early model 380 series cars had timing chain issues which were finally resolved by the 84&85 model years. The 560 series were the end of the 107 chassis cars. They are not very fuel efficient due to the big motors.Unless you can do a lot of your own work none of these cars are inexpensive to own. They are a true joy to drive though.Anything with records of work done is a big plus, even if the asking price is higher. My logic on my car was that I wanted something that was exempt from CA emissions testing.(Pre 1975)If I had it to do over I'd probably pay more and get a 560,just to have modern technology like ABS and such.

BaytoBeaches Hi, would it be rude to ask how much you paid? Have you had any major financial repairs?

I'm trying to learn about the Benz so I can determine what year to buy and how much to spend.

Thanks... BaytoBeaches
