Samson 1986 Mercedes 600SL M120 V-12

Samson 1986 Mercedes 600SL M120 V-12
As far as I know this is the worlds first Mercedes M120 V-12 powered 107. This car was featured in its original gallery as SadieInRed with it's original V-8 engine.

Samson was constructed from a 1986 560SL using the power train from a 1996 SL600. The complete power train including engine, trans, differential, wheels tires and front breaks were all removed from a wrecked SL600 and installed into the 560SL.

It features a 389 HP, 6.0 Liter V-12 engine, utilizing the stock ME fuel/ignition system and 722.6 5 speed transmission with stock EGS controller and 2.65 rear end.

It is as smooth as glass, quiet and ungodly fast. The combination of this awesome engine into this classic body style brings a 21 century level of sophistication back into a one of the most classic luxury sports cars ever made.

t walgamuth It is a wonderful and most impressive achievment, John! It looks like an extremely seamless installation. 01-31-2012
Delibes You are certainly going to need stronger front springs! 04-11-2011
Deltacom I think 20mm spacers is excessive and difficult to balance. Gives a hard time to the bearings. I got 16X8 ET34 on 255/55-16 and 6mm spacers and found it to be best arrangements. Even with 10mm spacers bearing didnt last 10K miles.
Did you have to do any mods to fit SL600 brakes?
Perhaps staggered 7.5 or 8 front and 9 on the rear would be good combination.

Roncallo Thank you. I fabricated the mounts myself. For the full story visit.

Wheels and tires and front breaks are standard 1996 SL600 16X8 ET34 with 225/55-16 tires and 20mm spacers up front. Front tires really do not fit so they will be eventually reduced. AMG successfully used a 225/50-16 with a rolled fender on a 16" x 8" ET-11 wheel so it is close. I will probably be looking for a 7.5" X 9.0" staggered wheel solution.
