That very same thing happened to me too.
..In the first car I had ever owned, a 1964 Chevelle. It was in 1972.
When they get squirrelly at about 65-70, with the feather light power steering on them, those cars are impossible to "save" once you start to lose it. When I lost it and hit the rail at 70, head on, the car did not flip but it spun all the way around. From 70 to zero in a second, it was damned good I had the seat belt (lap belt) on. It dug into my hips so hard I could not walk for a month, and my girlfriend had to help. Had I not had the seatbelt on, I would have eat the windshield for sure. No doubt. The car in the VID really launched good, damn shame to see it total out like that. Those early Chevelles were good cars, they looked really good. Still do. I still miss mine.

Drag strip cars get in that kind of trouble all the time. Something about going 140+ mph in a very overpowered car can cause things to go wrong FAST. That's why they have roll cages and helmets and fire procective suits, etc. it said he walked away from the crash.
These cars have very little in common with how they came from the factory. Not as bad as NASCAR, but if you look at this one, It was tubbed for huge wheels, had drag bars on the rear, a huge engine in front, etc. There are different levels of protection for the different speed classes. I think it was a shame this happened to the guy esp. since he had lotsa money invested in that car. What would have been worse would be the guy who takes his Chevelle down the road in stock form and looses it at 100+

Too much horsepower and not enough downward force on the car to hold it down. I know I've seen it myself a number of times. I haven't been to a dragstrip in years . . .
