All Hail Dio!
Layin' the cheese on thick, here. If you just listen, it sounds much better than the videos allow.

I am shocked by that factoid. Were they a one hit wonder? All their music I've come across, besides having very strange titles, has been pretty good. Maybe they were ahead of their time? |

ronnie's only 5'4", not much of a metal god at that size. i'm only 5'7", i should know. i recently saw an interview with him on some heavy metal documentary that came out not too long ao. it was pretty sad, he collects ceramic frog statues and swords. he's just an uber-geek grandpa...
he was raised in cortland ny, not far from ithaca, and they even have a road named after him there. an older friend of mine saw one of his first bands, Elf, play in ithaca in the early 70's. and my sister in law has a Dio For President sticker on her car.

HA! I should have inferred as much based upon the way he struts around in pom-pom boots and makes the angry face in these vids. |

Ah DIO... brings back memories They weren't a one hit wonder, at least not around where I was. Pretty popular, just not as popular as the glam bands of the time. Unfortunately radio only played the glam bands so it was pretty much college stations or listening to tapes/albums. I would see them on Metal Shop on MTV a good bit... parents had one of those big 'ol satellite dishes before everything got scrambled.
