San Francisco 1905

Somebody sent me this link to a film of San Francisco shot from a street car going down Market St. not long before the big earthquake. That's the Ferry Building at the end of the street.

http://www.flixxy.com/san-francisco-1905-historical-footage.htm

Notice that there are no traffic lights and people seem to be driving willy nilly, wherever they feel like going.

That's a great piece. Just love the life and action that was going on that street during that time.

Here is the direct link.

I haven't been there in a couple of years, but hope to be going back again before much longer. I love San Francisco.

Let us know, Tom. I would so enjoy giving you another tour, but no "Bullitt" stuff this time.

I was all over town just this Sunday; I am about 200 miles away, and the car is all fixed up now, it was a mess when you saw it a couple of years ago..I would like you to take a look now.

My wings are clipped.

Notice how all the cops are chubby, even if they are walking? Donut shops were in their heyday at that time, lol.

Today, in San Francisco, "Ees no deeferent"

The donut shops are all run by Cambodians, who HATE donuts.
But SFPD patrol units are always outside of them. One guy nonetheless was so stupid he still tried to rob one of them.

Tried.

Guy who was smarter, though -robbed the See's Candy Store at the end of Valentines day.

Got away clean.

All of this drama took place a couple of blocks away from where I lived in SF back then:

Clement, between 10th and 11th Avenues. Chinatown II, we called it. LOLZ

Montreal is the bank robbery capital of North America. When five bank robberies were going on almost within an hour of each other, where were most of the patrol cops?

Lunch

I think they used to have a band playing on every cable car, didn't they? I have to say that the music seemed a bit weird with the imagery.
