autocross #1 for 2010

I made an attempt to do some cutting between shots, at least as best as I could do with a point-n-shoot and windows movie maker.

That's cool! It must feel great to get the car out on the track.

Had to laugh at the name of the high school - straight out of Family Guy...

Unsolicited advice. During the slalom try to envision hitting the next cone with the back wheel of the inside tire. Look ahead. Walk the course until you can see the whole thing in your head. Do it again. better yet get there early enough that you help set up the cones. Definately looked like you were having a good time.

My wife and I had a blast in the Miata. This is her.

Rant

Blue Ridge Region SCCA, local group, basically priced the entrance fee past the "just having fun" point.

Lots of very serious people locally that ruin the fun for the majority. I've given it up for now.

Last week at Grissom we had a wonderful wide open course with Not one cone on the outside of any curve after the start and aside from the finish gate.

I had the Miata pretty hooked up but was beaten soundly by my nemisis in a newish solstice. Between the three of us, him myself and my co driver we were the top three fastest stock cars on sunday. The fellow who beat me also was 10th fastest pax and 12th raw of 95 drivers including all modified classes and purpose built race cars. He beat some of the tube frame lotus replicas running a lot more horsepower than he had, and ASP Porshce 911, and a Nissan with 500 hp. I was 19th fastest pax time and 25th raw.

My last run was pretty wild and wooly with a lot of tail out stuff all through the course. I nearly spun in the run off area after the finish lights (which would have negated the run if I had hit a cone...which would have been certain).

My fresh motor is not ready yet and I still have a (hopefully) better subframe to put under the front which will allow a skosh more negative camber.

I doubt I will be able to beat him though except under specific circumstances.

Went down to Colombus IN today for the autocross. It was a fairly light crowd. I was running my old Kuhmos which are pretty worn out and significantly slower than my Hoosiers. I want to save the Hoosiers and just get seat time.

I ran fairly well, coming within .02 seconds of a fellow who I really respect down there who I have never come within a second of before.

A fellow showed up in a lovely red '69 Lotus elan coupe in vintage road racing trim with a full roll cage, a gutted interior and only the one bucket seat. He was really quick too within .02 seconds of the FTD which was an ASP Porsche 911. Just a really pretty little car!

I was prepared for rain with my new treaded Toyos so natch, it did not rain til the trip home when the sky burst!
