Black ice videos for winter!

Both videos have situations that suck, but I think the second has some humor to it.

Not sure where the bridge one was filled. But for at least 12 years they used a solution in Wisconsin that is sprayed on before first snow. It prevents ice up and does a great job. No more black ice on overpasses and bridges!

If I were the driver of that BMW I can assure you a lawsuit would be filed the very next day for the idiots who turned the sign on wrong. Unless the arrow was pointing so people could just jump off the bridge.

Seriously, I couldn't believe that when I first watched it! The damage on the BMW looked pretty bad too.. Although I thought the person in the Volvo did a pretty good job handling their skid. Sucked for the Jeep though, he came to a nice stop and the person behind him flew down the road and couldn't stop in time, bummer.

Lol, although that's one of those things that you're never supposed to do.

That's funny, and proves people are dumb.

...My car's sliding out of control down a hill, I'm bailing out... ...Then I'm going to walk behind my crashed car, and stare at the next driver who's also lost control...

Dont think there was any save to the situation, but the idiots who bailed out should be liable for the increased damage they caused.

I was on I-94 Monday night west of Milwaukee saw the aftermath of a pretty similar scenario as in the vids. We'd gotten a thaw with several days of rain and drizzle, which apparently had washed all the salt off the road -- so when an inch or less of snow hit, it crusted up on the road and turned very treacherous for anybody without snow tires. I think I saw 15 cars banged up or in the ditch on a 15-mile stretch. A news report the next day said there were 50 collisions or runoffs over a three hour period. Then the salters came out and everything was fine.

Although not really black, it is almost transparent to black asphalt macadam road through, hence the term black ice. They are generally large ice pellets, snow or sleet surrounding black ice means that areas of ice are often virtually invisible to drivers and therefore will not serve as a good indicator that they must reduce their speed.
