4X4 Safer than 2 wheel drive?
|
Good video. I especially like the big truck at the end skidding with the little one in front going down the hill like a champ!
To answer your question though....not really (You have to know what you're doing for 4WD to be safer) http://4x4abc.com/jeep101/safety.html http://4x4abc.com/jeep101/safe.html |
Dedicated winter tires safer than crappy rock-hard all-season tires...

I think 4x4's are safer when they are sticks. I think it's the drivers getting far too confident driving that causes accidents. Sure, 4x4 will help you go, but won't do crap for you when you need to stop. That's where your clutch comes in ;)

AHH yes,
The good ol' "four wheel slide" debate....
Four wheel GO is NOT the same as four wheel STOP. The average Joe who never trained more than just getting a standard driver's license has minimal knowledge of it, at best. To get off the high horse, I started totally ignorant and lacking skills just like everybody else. My first exposure was going to Germany and having the mandatory 'supplemental training' the Army makes you do there. At that time, even Colonels had to go, don't know about know...Then, we actually had a local guy who was authorized to teach commercial truckers with hazmat there. His philosophy was, "You can't predict future things, so SLOW DOWN." and "The equipment is only as safe as the driver so SLOW DOWN." ...........well, he wasn't Austrian so he didn't sound like Ahhhnold but he knew we all got a kick out of the accent. :D MORAL of the story?....if snow and ice will make a TANK skid out of control at any speed, 4x4s don't stand a chance. I never believed it would happen until I saw it with my own eyes - many times, so SLOW DOWN... |
