w108 1967 250s u-joint

I am in the prosess of rebuilding the driveshaft in my 250s. New flex disc, support bearing, ujoints. I ordered two new u-joint's from an online parts house but when I recieved them both box's had been opened. One of the ujoint's was correct the other was noticably smaller. The u-joint that is "correct" measures approximately 2 -15/16" from cap to cap and the cap measures 1-1/16" in diameter. The box's that the u-joiunts came in both had the same part number so ??????? I am aware that there are vehicle ID numbers that assist in the prosess. Maybe someone could "school" me ........

Thanks -Mark

One of your u-joints has obviously been incorrectly boxed. You will have to call whoever you purchased them from and straighten that out. I would personally insist on sending both of them back and getting factory sealed boxes, I don't wan't returns for new price, if they are gonna send me used parts, I want a used parts price.

I don't know what the size is, so I cannot help there.

Vehicle ID # is on the plate beside the hood latch on the radiator support. Starts with 108.xxx and is the serial # for the car. Now known as the VIN number, but won't have any letters in it.

No VIN for that car, only the chassis number.

Chassis # IS the VIN number for old MBs. Benz started using the US VIN number system laster, 80's some time, I think.

After all, the serial number for the automobile is a Vehicle Identification Number. The letters are strictly a US thing, Benz embeds most of that info as digits (that is, make, model, equipment, etc).
