M180 valve adjustment tool
Will the OM617 valve adjusting tools (excluding spring retainer)work on the M180? The Hazet tool for the straight six is a 14MM crowfoot wrench. Haven't cracked the valve cover to look, can someone advise?
Thanks!

No, you need the crowfoot, the six has rocker arms that sit on the valve on one side and a screw fitting on the other. You adjust the fitting to adjust the clearance, and if you don't have the crowfoot, you are likely to round off the rather thin flats. This will require removing the rocker to adjust the clearance, a huge pain.

Can a generic crowfoot do the job or is the $63 Hazet crowfoot the better (less rounding of nuts) option?
Thanks again. While I'm at it, would you buy the Gedore 46mm driveshaft locknut wrench for $30 or would you improvise with pipe wrenches and/or large crescent wrenches? (For the 115) The special tools are WAY over priced and those two are reasonable ones.

Get or borrow the tool, it also has a recess underneath to hold it in place and is offset to put the wrench fitting directly over the screw so you can get a proper torque reading. This is important. If the torque required to move the adjuster is too low, it won't stay put.
Pipe wrenches leave marks on the driveshaft nuts by otherwise work perfectly. Peter

If you are handy, you can make one from some stock and an old spark plug socket..1/2 drive
Doesn't look cool, but works great.. http://members.aol.com/ajdalton7/vtool.jpg |
