Heater Cable ?

I have a 76 240D and was wondering where to buy a Heater cable that goes from the driver side red slider to the valve on the firewall. I've looked at a lot of parts places on-line and haven't come up with one, Also is it a PITA to change? Thanks for any help

If the heat lever is sliding with zero resistance it could be the nub on the lever mechanism is broken off. This happened on my 114, not a difficult repair but you better tape mark where the cables go. Heat lever mechanism is held on with 2 little nuts (7or8mm) on the end portions behind the dash. Pulling the center console on the 114/115 is piece of cake.

Dunno about replacing cables. Hood release cable is something I've got to fix on my car. General rule is duct tape the new cable to the old and thread it through while pulling the old cable out. I'd probably even wrap new and old cables together with picture hanging wire underneath the duct tape, so the new cable doesnt get lost when I pull the old cable out.
