jack locations with rust

I am getting ready to cut the rust out of my 110... but before I do that, i want to replace my auto tranny so I can actually move the car around when I need to...

the front frame rails are there, but I'm not super confident to use them as a jack point... can I use the outside frame rails underneath the doors? is this safe?

rust is floorboards and front rails.. that's it..

in the back.. is the axle ok to put jacks under?

thanks!

One common problem with old world MB mechanics working on these cars was jacking up one side or the other of the Heckflosse/Finbody by the swing axle and then sheering off the grease fitting on the swing arm knuckle by over extending the reach of the swing arm axle.

It got to the point where early 110's and 111's with swing arm knuckle grease fittings intact became rare. In fact, I believe that MB later used recessed swing arm grease fittings to remedy this problem. At least this tells you the axles can support the weight of the car as jack points or this wouldnt have become common practice.

And even though I saw a pretty good 110 that I'm dying to get my hands on last weekend, it's been awhile since I've been crawlin around underneath a Heckflosse/Finbody... but I'd probably try using a floor jack underneath the strongest unibody beam at/near the original jack points in front and then put jackstands or shimmed 4x4 blocks in place at more than one location nearby.

Dropping the tranny shouldnt be tough since bell housing bolts are easy access on these cars, but you should probably paint mark the tranny mount nuts in their slots for proper allignment of new tranny mounts to prevent the driveshaft from "orbiting" also putting in new engine mounts naturally... AND it's a good idea to paint mark the diveshaft coupling to the tranny coupling on the other side of the rubber flex disc since these cars were hand built with the driveshaft said to be ballanced to the tranny.

Jeeze louise, you just can over-estimate how well built the 110 and 111 cars actually are. Gotta take your time at whatever you do.

As the original jacking ports and rockers are pretty rusty on my '60 220S Fintail, I've been using a hydraulic floor jack. I use a 2 foot long 2 x 4 under the front frame rails to prevent jacking damage.
In the rear, I simply put the cup of my floor jack under the bolts where the rear axle trailing arms attach to the rear frame rail.

ok.. got the jack points..

That was another question I had.. if I have a new flex disk and tranny going in, how do I know the proper orientation to keep it balanced with the old drive shaft? will it only fit one way?

thanks!

Driveshaft balance shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't separate the driveshaft sections.
According to the Mercedes shop manual, upon reinstallation, leave the driveshaft clamp-nut loose and the driveshaft center-bearing mounting bolts finger tight, then roll the car back and forth a few times before finally tightening those fasteners.
