Question W108 indicator for 'P'R'N'D'3'2' selection

Has anyone had a broken selector cable? Any sources for the cable itself?
Any 'homebrew' remedies I can use?
I know the complete unit is beyond my budget. Thanks in advance.

It is a complete unit, I don't know of any suitable cable repair/replacement. The indicator is somewhere around $200 USD new, and can sometimes be found on eBay. I picked up a new in box replacement on eBay for about $40 USD.

Fixed with monofilament line

I used 20 lb test, and used a spring similar to one found on a retractable pen(only stouter). Its' not perfect, but 'Reverse' lines up om the indicator.
