Wiper arm defunct on 114 720 250

Well it's started raining in LA and my first drive in it the drivers side wiper arm has come loose. The motor still works but the arm isn't moving with it anymore. I connect tell how it's connected to the motor so any ideas on how and if this can be fixed?

Hello,
Check the nut that holds the arm to the spindle first, this has been known to work loose, wiping off the serrations.
Linkage rarely causes problems.
Hope that helps.

Hello,
At the base of the wiper arm/shaft end, there is a cover cap that will need to be pried up from the *outer* end to expose the nut.
Hope that is of some help.

I finally got around to taking a closer look at this.. there is no way to "pry up" the cap covering the base of the wiper arm. It is held in place by a rivet which is the axle for the wiper arm. In order to get under there I will have to cut off the rivet and then replace it with something suitable afterwards.. I just hope that the bolt or nut isn't stripped.

The rivet is also the pivot for the cover. Pry gently upward at the base of the cover opposite the arm, it should flip up and expose a nut.
To check if the nut is loose try moving the arm in an arc. If the shaft at the base of the arm does not move, you have a loose nut.
If it does move, the linkage is broken.

OK I'll try that .. it is meant to flip up... right??

The shaft turns when the wipers are on so I'm sure it's not the linkage.

Well that worked.. It was not easy to get the cover to flip up.. I had to pry up the indentations on the sides first and then pry from the back edge by leveraging a screwdriver against a roll of electrical tape.

Tightening the nut up and it was good to go.

Glad I could help out.

Whew, I was asleep here when you posted that you could not pry up the cover, good thing you did not try to cut the rivet
4.24pm your time is 3.24am for me...but alls well that ends well :D
Mercedes wiper linkage rarely give any trouble, usually the soft alloy wiper arm
cracks due to fatigue OR the base cone fitting gets wiped out.
Have a good week

LOL.. naw I would have gotten confirmation on that first.. it just didn't really want to budge at first. I'm glad thatit was just the nut that was loose.. I magine replacing the motors to really be difficult.
