Hi, is there a trick to preserve the rubber?
Same of the rubber seals in the windows and doors are totally destroyed and have to be replaced but I still have same that look to be in reasonable shape.
Same one told me to put “condom lube” on then to preserve and to prevent cracks. Thanks VCR |

Personally, I would just replace them. I have seen and had too many cars that nickel and dime you to death with "cheap fixes" on parts that are obviously wear items. Pick a week or two over the winter when its garaged and do it while you have the time to be patient about it and do it right.
Good luck in any case.

Is this the 115 you bought last year? Better check the door bottoms too for rust from puddles of water collecting in the doors. Condom lube sounds reasonable. I've also heard of silicone rubber lube in spray cans. Maybe check for marine product since you are in Portugal where they've got millions of harbors. There's got to be something that you can treat the rubber with.

Hi
My mechanic uses KY Jelly to install rubber bushes. I've seen it and it really works. But I don't think it preserves anything as it probably has too short a life. Probably silicone spray work better. But when I do my bikes, they always say to use talcum powder on the inside of the tube and tires. My inner tubes last a long time with talcum powder. In fact, inner tubes comes packed with talcum powder I think. Oreo |

What a coincidence. I've been using VCR rubber belt dressing, it restores flexibility and stickiness to tired, dried out rubber.

Try glycerine. That's what I use and I have seen/heard it recommended by MBCA as well. It really works
