108 /109/113 automatic floor shift lightbulb?

On 108/109/113's is there a small lightbulb under the chrome floor trans shift plate to illuminate the shift pattern for nighttime use, etc?

Haven't dug around down there and thought I remembered a post about a bulb under the chrome plate.

Thanks in advance.

Fiber optics plastic cord leading into shift gate plastic numbers and surround, same as they had with Heckflosse heater panels maybe?

I just work on this today on my 111 coupe. I don't know if it's the same on yours, but I had to remove center console with power window switches, then black shifter ball and three hex bolts that hold the indicator. There is a light bulb that iluminates semi clear plastic and that's how you see PRN432 at night. To access the bulb you have to pull four tabs that are holding plastic, take it out and replace bulb. Tabs are attached to the chrome and one of them broke off.

It's similar to what bikis described but yes, there is a bulb under there. Mine seems to be intermittant, so I need to check it out too.

The early 113 cars did not have a lighted transmission shift plate, so the answer may depend on the year of your car.

Took a look in my car and there was a small lamp affixed to the bottom of the chrome shift plate. Replaced the bulb (small tubular type with conical ends) and now I have a dimly illuminated shift gate. Not to tough a job.

Love to find a (reasonably priced) new plastic shift gate guide. I wonder who we could badger into producing a run of those things, since it's NYA from MB.

Good question. Mine needs replaced. It looks like crap. I have actually thought about making one of my own on my CNC Plasma machine, and then having it chromed... being able to find a new orignal style would sure be prefferable though......

There are repro plastic inserts on the market for about $80. I contacted both MB Classics and VDO to get a new one about a year ago. MB says NLA, VDO (the OEM) says tooling gone and mfg. rights reverted to MB.....

113 inserts will NOT work in the sedans/coupes......

Only been able to find 113 guides/ones with the wrong pattern.

That said, there's a correct 108 guide on Ebay for $105+ with a day or two left.
