Posting photos to Forum

Some of you Forum Savants probably already know this but the Forum posting page has the ability to link to an outside photo hosting service.

By using the IMG code facility at the bottom of the posting page a person can upload photos at full megapixel to one of the free photo hosting sites and link to that in a Forum posting. I've placed six photos of my 220b on the Webshots site and linked to them from this Forum. The advantage is that full pixel photos can be viewed without the Forum limitation on size. Saves on server storage space and upload speed.

Let's have more photos!!

Posting Photos

Hey, I'm still figuring it out myself. Check out my last posting to '63 220b parts.

There are at least two ways to post. First, find yourself one of the FREE photo hosting sites on the net, I used Webshots.com. Set up an account, make an album, upload photos to it. I uploaded six at approximately 2.5 megs each.

Then, when you post to the Forum, write your post and when you're ready to link to the photos use the "Insert Image" or "Insert Hyperlink" function in the Toolbar at the top of the posting screen. I used the Hperlink function this last time as I simply linked to the Webshots address where I stored my photos. The Hyperlink function is the one with the icon of the "World & chain".

Beyond that I can't think of anything else to do. If you try it and have problems post and I'll try to be more explicit.

How to post pictures to the forum

Yakerz,
It's a carefully guarded secret. As they say, "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you."

Actually, it turns out to be fairly easy. First you have to download a photo hosting program. Photobucket is one, but I found one I like a lot better called ImageShack.

With ImageShack, (after downloading the installer) you merely get online, right click on the picture you want to show on the forum, select ImageShack, wait for the picture to upload to the ImageShack server, copy the http code [they prefer you use the thumbnail option which I think is better with forums anyway], and then paste it on the forum where you want it to display. It is a quick and painless process.

Hope this helps you pic-posting-wannabes out there. Now show us your car already!

450 SL purchase

Hello, I am new to the Mercedes world but have had a love for them since I was a kid. Life took me in different directions and now I have the opportunity to purchase a 1973 107 that cosmetically from the outside is very nice, 73K miles, last ran a year ago and was being driven when the PS pump hose blew, locked up the pump and broke the pulley shaft. No damage to radiator etc. Owner wants rid of the car for $2500.00 as it has been sitting outside at a garage. Nice canvas top, everything appears correct for the car. I have not had the opportunity to get under the car or really go over it with a fine tooth comb but agreed to purchase. This could either be a real find or money pit. Either way I am game to restore the car if it takes a body off, floopan / sheetmetal replace, etc. Please let me know your thoughts and if I am over my head on this one. Is this a desireable car to the Mercedes crowd, or a problem child? I see others for sale in all kinds of condition from $5K to 25K.
Thanks in advance and any help would be appreciated.
Terry

Test picture

I am new to posting photos, so I thought I would give it a try with the use of ImageShack.

It appears to work and leaves the high resolution photo on the ImageShack server. Cool!
