Took our'67 to first car show
 

Took our 1967 250S to it's first car show. Was pretty fun! It took 2nd place. Considering everything is still pretty much original, such as paint and interior, we were very pleased that it did so well! :D

Unfortunately, we took second to a 2004 Mercedes sedan. I'll agree that the '04 is a nice car, but all they did to it was stick a set of rims on it. Where's the comparison between 2 such cars? This, unfortunately, seems to be an ever growing trend in car shows however........

We attend many car shows, and it simply blows me away that people go out, buy a brand new car such as an '04 Mustang, take it to a tire store and buy tires and rims for it, and then take it to a car show and win trophies with it and beat out old classics such as a 1968 Ford Mustang (this happened last night). This just dumbfounds me. How do you compare a 1968 Mustang that has been completey rebuilt and restored (and obviously has countless hours of tlc invested in it), to a 2004 Ford Mustang who's only "upgrade" is a set of tires and rims???? :pukeface: What makes the 2004 "special"??? ANYONE can go our and buy a new car and put rims on it. Woooo. To me, it's just stupid. :mad:

Anyway, I'm not saying that newer cars don't have the right to compete. Although I think it's stupid, I would say they definitely have the right. However, I would think car shows should seperate them away from the old "classics". To me, there is no comparison. It's 2 completely different genres.

Anyway, we're not "sore" that we took second. Actually, we're elated. :D That means this little car should do very well in competitions once it is finished being restored. But it just bothers me that 2 completely different eras of cars compete against each other like that. :mad: Even IF our car was already completely restored, where's the comparison? Of course the '04 is flawless!!! It has only 3,000 miles on it since it rolled off the showroom floor! What else would you expect??? It's not so easy to take a car that's almost 40 years old and restore it to "flawless" condition. Everyone here may disagree with me, but I think it's just WRONG.

Anyway, we walked away from the show disgruntled over several of the things they did. For instance, they had a bikini contest. No big deal, right? Wrong!! The "ladies" who competed were obviously strippers, and the "bikinis" they wore were little more that "strings" that barely left anything to the imagination. But what's worse is that they proceeded to "rub themselves" (if you know what I mean), and one even went to far as to pull her top up and show off her boobs. Another stuck her hand down her pants and rubbed herself. Two others got down on the floor together, and started making out and simulating sex acts. :mad: Oh brother. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude. However, where I come from a car show is a "family affair" and I consider this to be totally unacceptible behavior. There were plenty of kids there too!!! There was one little boy, who was standing about 7 feet from us (probably about 10 years old), and his eyes were about to pop out looking at this fiasco!! :eek:

Well, it gets better. The car show had organized an "after hours" party at a local bar, where they were SUPPOSED to have a wet t-shirt contest. For whatever reason, someone got a brilliant idea NOT to have the wet t-shirt contest at the bar, but to have it at the car show instead!!!! :eek: So here again are a bunch of kids watching this!! Naturally, these "ladies" wore the very thinnest shirts possible, and believe me, you could make out the freckles on their chest after the water got put on them. :mad:

Had I have had my own kids at the show, I would have demanded we be allowed to get our car and leave. I just felt it was totally inappropriate for a "family" type atmosphere. I let my feelings be known to the "administrators" of the show, but they acted like they could have cared less....

Am I alone on thinking that this sort of behaviour at a "family affair" is totally inappropriate??????? :confused:

Aw well, atleast we got a trophy out of it.......

If kids organize the show... then that is what you are going to get... Concourse shows are not like that... but you have the opposite extreme of the spectrum... very very anal judges.. and a lot of whining...

You should have seen the lowrider shows out in Los Angeles... that was a sight... of course, I was in my early 20's and a little skin was alright with me...

I agree with you '68, it is inappropriate for a car show. Sure, I'm 18 but I still think there's a time and a place for everything.

Reinforces my opinion that nowadays people have no idea about what is appropriate and what is completely unacceptable.


You did pay and entry fee, so you have the right to make your displeasure known to the organisers.

Sounds like they probably broke several laws about public exposure and lewd acts.. you probably could have gotten a few people arrested by calling the police..

It is objectionable that they would allow children into such an event and my guess is that the local law enforcement would find it objectionable as well.

In a real concours street class, you get an age allowance. That's what allows you to beat the new cars.

Now I may be biased since I'm a girl, but I think that if a guy wants to see boobs he can go to a strip club or to his favorite website. I feel that circumstances like that only attract 'trashy' people and doesn't reflect the type of people that I would want to interact with. That's just my .02 tho :o

I would agree. And a "family oriented" car show was DEFINITELY NOT the time and place for this sort of behavior....... :mad:

And people wonder why we have 12 year old kids getting pregnant. Hmmm, I wonder. Maybe it has something to do with that "Monkey see monkey do syndrome".

There were police on sight, seemingly enjoying the show............ :eek: :mad: Guess the whole idea of "To serve and protect" was thrown to the wayside by their hormones..... :mad:

I don't think it has a damn thing to do with your sex ma'am. Bottom line, I think it comes down to whether a person has "good taste" and knows what is appropriate and what is not. Moreover, I think that if this is the sort of behavior they wish to display at the show, then it should be expressly noted at the door so that those who don't care for it are forewarned and can choose not expose themselves to the "smut" atmosphere. In addition, I would think that if this is how they choose to conduct themselves, then no one under 21 should be allowed to enter. After all, we don't let kids under 21 in to our strip bars, do we??????????? :mad:

Been to a lot of car shows, polished lots of chrome, buffed acres of paint and hauled home my share of trophies, but never ran across that. Usually good time oldies rock n roll, burgers and dogs, porta-potties, and no shade. Also sounds like you have found a show that doesn't deserve your entry fee next year. If there is a next year for them...

About the only way you'll beat the local multi-make car show system is to carefully study the entry options available to you. The foreign makes are always at a disadvantage because most of these shows are for US iron. That said, sometimes they will group by year of production, and sometimes will include a catch-all "foreign" class. Study the entry carefully for your best class opportunity. Your best chance for friendly competition is to try the MBCA section shows. When I lived in Colorado I enjoyed the Denver show, real good folks, nice venue, proper judging by MBCA rules. Colorado Springs did a good job, too. There may be something similar for you in the OK area.

Somehow, I doubt I would fit in very well at a MBCA show, considering my '67 has a chevy 350 in it. I can't see Mercedes loyalists liking that too well... lol!!!!!!! They would prolly run me off, or hang me at sunrise! LMAO! :eek: :D

Yeah, I've never in my life seen a car show like this one, especially here in "The Bible Belt" of America. It was absolutely the worst car show I have ever been to. I definitely won't be going back. Many of the other participants had the same feeling as I did, and said they would never waste their money on it. And while there wasn't a pole, guys WERE stuffing the "contestants" bikinis with dollar bills.... :eek: If they had just passed around some beer an had a pool table......
