HI and welcome. As a new owner, please read the postings here on the vintage forum. As you work on the car, make sure you do not adjust any of the throttle linkages or the set screw stops. There is info in the vintage section on idle adjustment and starting, like when you start a hot engine, turn the key on for 5 seconds before engaging the starter.

heres the car

i got it about 2 months ago. needs alotta work. its been sitting in a driveway for years and most of anything rubber is GONE. woodwork is cracked, leather has been redone in the past and is well. it has problems starting cold, not sure if it the cold start, u need to crank 5 sec then pump the gas 2-3 times for a turn over. since i got the car i have replaced the front and rear window seals on my own. wet sanded and buffed the paint, degreased the engine bay 3 time and under carrage twice, engine flushed twice, cooling flush once, refilled all fluids with brake being the lowest level. wiper works only on driver side. exhaust hangs on one coat hanger at last hook by tailpipe. loud buzz from exhaust, possible hole that i cant find. got hub caps from ebay and repainted black, plus extra rims from salvage, rims blsted and painted, and waiting for white walls from diamond back. tires on car have cracked to the point they are peeling from metal cord. did a tune up with wires, plugs, and cap. no rotor, the one i got didnt fit right, have to re order. door leather wrinkled from water thru vent windows. after market radio with antenna, fixed, and speakers. just blew out my top radiator hose todaygoing to dentist. found out the belt was flexing and rubbing on the bottom of top hose and wore thru.

so far i got about 500 skins into the car. a mix of parts from ebay, mostly bits and pieces. i think another 100 bucks more and its ready for a show......HAAAAA!!!!

i have to admit i love the thing. cant race anyone, but i sure get alotta looks tho, given the condition its in. but if u squint alittle and shes just beutiful.

grez,

I was extremely happy to read your post. I also have recently picked up a 67 250se that has sat for an extended time. I am still working to get it running and have resigned myself to the fact that it will take me a long time. As you've probably have already seen you'll find lots of great info from the guys & gals that post here, their knowledge is vast and they love a challenge!

I look forward to gleening information from your work. There's not a lot of us w111's around so please share your experiences when you can.

she's got her high heels on.....watch out boys

those last pics were not too long ago, about a month or so. so here she is again with a 1500 grit to 2000 grit wet sand, a buff, a finnish buff and sealed with clear resin then wax. got a replacement cap and rotor, that fits this time. changed the clear turn light lens up front to amber, to match other. pulled off the rear bumper guards that were mounted by someone in the past. had a set of diamond back 205/75R14 with 2 1/2 inch white walls mounted on stock steel rims after i cleaned, scrubbed and repainted. hub caps stripped, masked and sprayed. replaced tranny filter, that took care of hard shifts from 2nd to 3rd and from 2nd to 1st. new set of belts and hoses to be mounted on my next weekend, i hope. got rubber hangers for tail pipe today and will mount next weekend. found the fix for one working wiper, damn locking nut was loose and splined shaft free spun from wiper arm. got a driver mirror from ebay, disassembled original and swapped good parts from both mirrors to make one good free swiveling mirror, had to sray flat black on back of mirror glass to bring back reflection on front and srayed zinc chromate inside mirror housing for future rust. removed front and rear windshield to replace seals, rear glass worst, rubber dry rot to the point where glass was bouncing in seal and had a 1/4 gap from seal to glass. i did mess up on the install, i didnt put the trim molding in the front seal before i installed the glass. i had to lay a nylon cord 5/16 thick in seal groove for a few days to stretch seal enough and grease up upper trim molding to fit, was a #$@&*%$#@$$$##@^& in the ass. so if u replace front window seal, insert top molding first before setting glass in frame. other wise, budda bless u.

hope u enjoy the pics with her new heels on. any comments welcome, i just hope i didnt go overboard on the white walls, but i saw the car in an old pic and thought i just bring it back. i think its cool.

By the late '60s, whitewalls had become thinner, but I think she looks cool anyway.

From my recollection of old photos and vintage car ads, the 'wide-whites' were in style from the 50s through the early '60s. In the mid '70s, I had a '62 Hillman Super-Minx convertible. The car still had it's original, very bald, Dunlop bias-ply spare with a wide whitewall. By the late '60s, OE whitewalls had been slimmed down for style and cost considerations and looked more like the ones in the first photos you posted of your coupe. I suppose they were still availible as replacements then. I think your new wide-whites look good against the black.

How were you able to do such a good job on the hubcaps? In other words, how did you paint them without some sort of stencil?
Thanks
David

Mark - the spare was gone, the tire hold down was in the trunk pocket. if WW came back in the mid 70s then the photo may be correct. i was hoping to find an older photo, i am sure they have a photo when it was new. who would take pics of a new car. i will ask again and see. in either case, i am happy with the look. i still need a spare, did seem like a good idea to have a WW as a spare. i will just get a black wall to replace, now that i have 4 extra rims.

I Want - after i stripped the caps i washed with plenty soap and water. used the rough side of a scrub sponge and lightly scouered the area to be painted( for adhesion ). dry, then took masking tape, clean peeling stuff, and laid over star. pressed thumbnail into crease to set tape. used a straight edge, a 6 inch scale(metal ruler) and exacto blade(new blade) to follow edges of star. the ring i did the same, lay tape, fingernail edges all the way aroung and when cutting i held the blade tip in between my thumb and index almost covering tip. if you stack ur middle finger on ur index it creates a guide. the ring is raised and i then placed the ring ridge between my index and middle finger tips. follow the ring along stead and slow holding the blade fixed and in crease. after cuts are made peel off extra and tape off with newspaper, its ready to paint. once sprayed in light passes, multiple times with over lapping passes. look close at paint. should eventually build up paint to where paint starts to even out, the orange peel effect from sprying kinda melts into surface and evens out. remember u are very close to creating a run or drip. once u happy with paint, set aside and allow a few minutes to set and remove tape. use blade tip to pull up edges and pull tape at back against it self at close angle. this give u sharp edges. then let dry. after a day i used a resin seal for paint finishes and sealed. hope i didnt expain it toooooo much.

The white-walls never realy went away. They just got narrower. You can still get the thin ones today, it's just that if you want the '50s style wide-whites you have to special-order. I worked at an Exxon Car care shop for 18 years. They used to carry the same Atlas brand tires in blackwall and whitewall, just so they could milk that extra $3 from customers that had to have that white stripe on their wheels. They probably spent more in inventory costs, than if they just sold only whitewalls and let the customer decide whether to turn them in or out, for the same price!

Happy Motoring, Mark
