Heater Control Lever...tune-ups
Hi All!
I'm new to this forum and would like to post a couple of questions: I recently acquired a 72 280SEL 4.5 and noticed the driver side lower left heater control lever broken. Is this an easy fix and if so, how would u go about it? Second, I noticed the cap and plugs are easy to get to. Anything special about tuning this car? Type of rotor, since the catalog lists 2? Any suggestions on a good online parts store? Thx!!!! |

FastLane here is as good as it gets. There are others, but no real advantage to using them.
The lever is broken because the heater valves are crudded up, causing low heater output and excess resistance to movement. Get a new lever and replace the old one, plus remove the valves, clean them, and replace the seals. Instructions are in old posts, a search should pull them up nicely. One rotor is a rev limiter type, the contact "finger" is spring loaded and grounds out the spark as you approach rev limit. The other (cheaper) one is plain. Either works fine, but you are unlikely to over-rev the automatic unless you shift manually. Peter
