Just curious.. Pics of 111 with "modern" wheels

Pls post pictures of such Merk 111s with upgraded larger or more contemporary wheels.. I don't suppose they'd look good... but would like to see...

Abdoul, check out the famous Heckflosse.Netherlands website in post #1 of the Vintage Links folder.

They've got a photo gallery of 111 owner's cars, also some for sale, you wont believe that include 14" bundtcake wheels on 110's and 111's.

Just my opinion, but they actually look pretty good.

IMHO, the ultimate Benz - 190c w/sunroof, taxi cab marker lights and 2-tone paint, also bundtcake wheels:

Of all the non-stock wheels in these photos, I like the ones on that last silver SE Cabrio. Otherwise, I prefer the stock factory hubcaps.

I think bundtcakes are the best because they act as fully functional fan blades that draw air to cool the brakes. An excellent design, unfortunately picayune car owners *****ed when bundtcakes blackened with dust from brake pads - so MB had to lower it standards to accomodate lesser priorities of the car buying general public.

When MB sacked bundtcakes in favor of purely cosmetic wheels, I think it marked severe compromise in MB philosophy - same as when they incorporated the horrible automatic climate control because crybabies whined about having crummy heaters.

Now scratching my head, I can think of practically nothing except bundtcakes from early 1980's that are an improvement over 111 Heckflosse design...... not the seats, not interior space, not the HVAC system, coachwork or design.

It might sound pitiful but for me the po' cobbler always working on my own car, the 3rd world taxicab 190c remains the finest and best designed MB I've ever known or owned.

Well, I only meant that, in that last photo, those rims looked good on that SE Cabrio. I never cared for the looks of the painted bundt-cake alloys and have seen the disadvantages of chromed ones.

Having owned a Fintail for 3 years, I agree about the 190c, except (as Tim Allen used to say on 'tool Time') my 220S has "More Power!"
It's too bad mine also has "More Rust!"
(Also, disc brakes and power steering would be nice.)

As for different wheels for Miss Daisy, I have a set of 14 inch steel rims off a W108 280S, that will accept my original hubcaps, but not the trim rings. I was planning to upgrade to 14 inch tires, which are still much easier to find than the 185/80R13 size I'm running now, but I didn't find the 14 inch Pirelli P400s I wanted.
Ironically, my brother got me a membership at 'Sams Club' for Christmas and I found a really good deal on a set of 13 inch Goodyears!

Happy Motoring, Mark

I like the bundtcakes too... too bad they don't have "larger" versions of it...
