HVAC issues W114
Hello Everyone and Happy Spring!
I have been enjoying my 1974 280 again. The car still has heating issues though. No heat comes from the system except for radiant heat. The blower motor works fine, I have cleaned and re-sealed the heater valve (everything works correctly - I have checked and re-checked) and feel pretty confident that no air bubbles are present. The AC is disconnected (compressor is removed from car) but I would not think this would affect the heating as they are seperate. I am leaning towards the thought of a corroded heater core but where, oh where, can that be? Also, seems as if no one is suppling those monster York A/C compressors anymore. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated! Mark 1974 280 with the big m110 - shhhhhh it still has a Solex! |

I had a 280 for a short while, so my knowledge is quite limited.
But, I would follow the heater hose lines, and see where they enter the firewall. Next I would be tempted to disconnect a hose (or both) and hook up a garden hose, and see if you can get some flow. Or you could always (carefully) feel the hoses to see if one is hotter than the other. Might it be that a flap supplying fresh air across the heater core, is disconnected/broken somehow? oh, and shhhh... Hope you have better luck with your solex than I did...mine gave me fits! Call Phil for a quote on a York... He should be able to get one.

Are you sure that the heater blower is operating, and not the AC blower? The AC blower is the one almost in the console, the heater blower is in the bowels of the center dash.
If your heater blower is working, then you probably have either a blocked hose or heater core. You can flush it by attatching a hose to the inlet hose of the valve and disconnnecting the outlet hose on the passenger side. Open the heater valves. Then give it a little pressure and see what comes out.
