4 speed conversion, Done
So I started this auto to 4 speed thing like 5 months ago. I had a pretty hairy semester lined up, along with a few other things, I wouldn't have dreamed of trying it out of fear of the car sitting for 5 months.
Anyhow I went ahead with it, due to some external motivation. Here's the funny part About 3 months I finished the conversion and was ready to start the monster back up. To my great dismay there was some terrible coffee grinder sound coming from the sputtering motor. Like any good shade tree mech I immmediately turned the beast off, and began to worry. .5 an hour later Friday night was turning into Saturday morning so I decided to let the beast rest. The car sat for 3 months as I avioded the frustration and concentrated on other priorities. I got time to go under it and before I ripped everything back out in search of the demonic nioses, I decided to let it run and look for the source of the noise. Lo and behold it was coming from the untouched front of the motor, as I looked and looked it became appearent the air pump pulley was rubbing against the sway bar. Took the car off the jack stand and the front subframe re-aligned itself, no pulley rub, and the car and new transmission run fine aside from sitting for 3 months. So to my utter relief I didn't completely ruin a perfectly good W108, but I did confirm once again that I'm a complete moron Davo |

That's happened to me once before too, believe it or not.
I had just changed the oil, and I wanted to make sure it was getting oil pressure before I let it down (like I always do). Scared the crap out of me until I found out what it was. Definetly not a pleasant sound!

What 108 do you have? A 6 or 8 cylinder? What tranny did you go with if it's an 8?
Thanks David
