Now that I have most of the 250C together, I am beginning to sort out what is left in the parts boxes. I am stumped by this one.
It is a metal "dog bone," 5 1/4" long. On each end are 1" diameter "circles." The metal on the "circles" is 3/8" wide and 1/8" thick. The round metal connecting the circles is about 1/4" in diameter. It is corroded like it was exposed to road wash (or maybe the guy left it in the back yard since 1992 like the carbs). I dimly remember this part from my other cars, but I just can't put it in the right place. Thanks,

Maybe a link going down to the transmission? If it is, it would connect from the top of the engine down the manifold side of the engine, towards the ground. Gotta pic of it?
I can run out to my '73 and see if it matches anything. - Larry

The trans linkage seems to be present and accounted for. I'll try to get a picture. Thanks.

Chuck,
Sounds like the remains of one of the links for the rear anti-sway bar. Is there a prize if I'm right? Mark DiSilvestro

That's one I had not thought of, mainly because the whole rear sway bar is missing, so your characterization of "remains" was a good one. I'll check it out.
Thanks Chuck |

Mark -
You da man - that was it - number 61 on Illustration 32 of the Spare Parts book. I took a closer look at the rear end tonight. Actually the sway bar is there - the links and associated hardware that connect to the subframe (or carrier?) are missing. The rear suspension is particularly attractive with its thirteen year collection of Nebraska dirt, rust, and spider webs and eggs. |

Hello Chuck,
I remembered them from changing mine several years ago. Perhaps you could sell framed portraits of your attractive suspension on Ebay. The spider eggs and Nebraska dirt really provides a rustic image, rarely seen in Mercedes advertising. Happy Motoring, Mark
